Awesome sequel, better than the first book even. I love the pace of Kadrey's writing, it's fast and fun to read. I need to find more series like this one.

What do you say about a book that stars a nephalim who believes that Lucifer may be his father, and who has a head for a roommate/sidekick? It's like Terry Pratchet met up with Anne Rice and then had a date with Buffy!
Not having read the first Sandman Slim book probably won't matter - the backstory is exposited in drips and drabs, and knowing might not make the plot any easier to follow. That's not a bad thing, mind you. Learning about the different types of zombies (apparently there are four), the Sub Rosa and other denizens of Heaven and Hell is fun. Ditto James' war within himself over which side he's on - does he go Uptown or Downtown (he manages to work both sides and get paid for it)?
Definitely a fun read, and a series to look out for.

Enjoyable indeed. Certainly not high quality big "L" literature, but good, well-paced storytelling. And sometimes, that's enough.

Started out slow, but got progressively more interesting and funny, finally culminating in a full blown zombie apocalypse. Not as good as the first one, but then again, I'm partial to origin stories.

Zombies are not my thing. But there was so much going on besides zombies that I couldn't put it down. A solid sequel, and I'm looking forward to more. (Even if there are no chapter breaks, which leads to missing a reasonable bedtime by several hours...)

Middle book of a series or trilogy. Started with a morose whimper, ended with a bang and its aftermath, but still the middle book. While I will probably read the next book in this series, I won't rush out of my way or stand in line to get it.

Continued shenanigans. Humor, horror, a little romance... (Really...It's a smidge).

I really liked this book! I felt that the story itself pulled me in, and like the first book Sandman Slim, the main character was entertaining and I was constantly wondering what he would do next.
I actually couldn't put this book down! It started off kinda slow for me, but it soon picked up into a fast read. I definitely recommend this book to people who liked the first one!
