At Witt’s End takes place in a crumbling, Victorian town full of once regal mansions. Cerridwen is a murder mystery author who has inherited her grandmother’s mansion which is part of the “Green Man Court”. Surrounded by other mansions once owned by wealthy businessmen, actresses, and a quirky psychic, Cerridwen by default has become friends with all sorts of fun characters who now reside in these houses. The town has a 60 yr old unsolved mystery that is brought to light after a skeleton is found in a tree while Cerridwen and her friends enjoy a picnic. Who better to help solve the case than Cerridwen and her motley crue of neighbors and friends?

The characters in this book are fun, quirky, and approach all of the situations with humor and A+ wit. Cerridwen looks at life like it’s a murderous plot from one of her books, which drives her roommate, Jane, who is an actual homicide detective, nuts. Thomas, Cerridwen’s love interest, has a never ending playlist in his head that changes based on who he is around and I loved the way his songs set the tone for each character he came in contact with. The group is rounded out by Cerridwen’s friends who are also authors of various genres that add just the right amount of eccentricity.

The story moves fast and the mystery unfolds at a rate that you just can’t put the book down. I finished this book in 2 days and if I had been able to spend a good 6 hours on the couch, it would have been a one sit read for me. The story very much reminded me of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series - there is mystery and murder but you find yourself laughing at the characters as they try to muddle their way through it. I’d really like for this to be a series because I could not get enough of this group of characters. If you like murder mysteries but aren’t in the mood for a dark/anxious vibe, give this book a read.

A novel of murder and mystery, an old town in Northern Washington must face long hidden secrets come to the surface. A novel where mystery writer Cerridwen is trying to work on her latest book but uncovers something much more.

I love the banter throughout the novel and how quick the characters became likable. I love how the story kept unfolding as the mystery continued to unravel.

Go give this one a read! I think you’ll love it.

Oh I love a good murder mystery! This book was fantastic! Everything about it was amazing from having a murder writer as one of the MC to opening a cold case to the tried and true who dunnit plot! I was fully engaged with this book the entire time! This was a great Sunday read! Not much to say other than this a great read!
