After Dark

Jayne Castle

3.62 AVERAGE

Was bored and needed reading materials. Tried this. It's a very simple fantasy-romance. Seems humans walked through a magical portal a few centuries ago, to this world, then the portal disappeared. Lydia is a magical investigator who mysteriously disappeared into ruins of the ancient magical civilization, lost her academic spot, and now has a basic job. In walks Emmett, the handsome, mysterious guy looking for his nephew.

Everything is extremely standard, neither good nor bad.

The sci-fi element is fun, and Fuzz is a truly brilliant pet. That said, once you realize "rezz" is used much as "smurf" would be in a slightly different setting, it's hard to unsee...

Editing Nightmare

I have this 4 stars bc the story was good. Truly. But come on, whoever the editors were should be fired. I have never seen so many in a book that wasn’t a kindle free book. Jeeze. The book is good otherwise, hopefully book 2 will have a different editor.

What a fun adventure. A very cool “magic” premise, ancient alien frequencies in a far off colonized world. It was original and a fun detective case. The romance was sizzlin and the familiar was SO KYOOT!

Never would have thought to start this series. But I rather enjoyed reading it.

Jayne Ann Krentz, writing as Jayne Castle, creates a future on another planet where people have psychic abilities. This backdrop makes a great setting for Emmett and Lydia's love story. This is my favorite romance set in Harmony that I have read so far.
