DID NOT FINISH: 20%

I knew nothing about this author and had no idea how explicit this book was. I could have read on but it felt as if it COULD be a book that had the potential to disturb me. Not a risk I wanted to take.

dark emotional reflective sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I actually don't mind spending time with repugnant men in fiction, especially when it's done well and has a larger point, like in this novel. Perfect for anyone in the mood for subversive, bleak, and cynical French literature.

I'm glad I pushed through the initial third of this book. Putting aside the provocation, the questionable thoughts and remarks, the violence and the sex, there's a lot of depth and even political analysis in this book.

Gubber gonna gubb.
