Consistent with how I've felt about the rest of this series, the story is fine by I didn't like the main heroine, Thea. And I never fully warmed to her.

The first half of the book was more gripping but the second half dragged a lot, and I felt like the pacing was off. I do think what could have helped is the characterisation of Benedict. There was an awful lot of tell, not show, with him. Benedict and Thea are obviously drawn to each other but Thea doesn't trust her heart with Benedict because she views him as a flirt. Since her parents were known adulterers, she doesn't want to have a relationship similar to theirs, but fears she will since she thinks Benedict is inconstant. The trouble was, for the majority of the book, only Thea has this assessment of Benedict, with nothing to back it up. No one else has a low opinion of him, and we're also not seeing through his actions how Thea is gaining these conclusions. Add to Thea's clear immaturity, it's hard to be on her side. Instead she just seems wilfully stubborn and intractable, but for no reason.

It's only at about the 80% mark, when Thea finally tells Benedict her thoughts (don't get me started on pacing, because I truly feel at least 20% could have been cut out of this book), that we get a third party opinion and an objective example that Benedict could be a lot more circumspect in his dealings with the opposite sex. At this stage though my opinion of Thea is set, and I haven't been rooting for this relationship because it seems like she has the lowest opinion and regard for Benedict, which hadn't really changed or softened at that stage. If we had seen more of Benedict's interactions with other women through the book, especially from his POV, where we can see him being careless (not intentionally cruel), then I think the whole book would have worked a lot better because it would have been easier to sympathise with Thea.

So I kind of mentally switched off. Anyway, I did enjoy this more than the previous book, which I liked more than the prequel (which I don't think I finished),so the series is gaining in strength - but it's not really my cup of tea.

Another winner in this series!
I am so happy we got Benedict's POV because it was needed.
It was missed in the previous book for sure.
Thea was lovely and I understood her plight.
The banter was fun.
The romance made me giddy.

Kinda bummed we have to wait until 2023 for Henry's story. I've loved him since [b:Properly Kissed|60532902|Properly Kissed (Bradwell Brothers #0.5)|Kasey Stockton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1646172994l/60532902._SY75_.jpg|95398743] and while he didn't end up with Felicity, I need his HEA.
