4.5⭐️ I loved this book. The beginning was a bit slow to get into but necessary to understand Clover as a character. The ending was full of emotions and I am not a crier. But, it was an ending that I loved and couldn’t have asked for anything better.

I don’t believe this book was bad, but it could have been better. The synopsis effectively conveys the main idea, but I felt it was a bit surface level . While there were some conversations, I expected deeper discussions on life and death. However, the conversations were also quite surface level. Personally, I was looking for more depth. If the book had been shorter, like a novella, it might have had the same effect. The topic of death and a death doula is intriguing, which is why I picked up the book. You do get that satisfaction, but I wish we could have delved deeper into the subject matter by exploring more people that she worked with instead of focusing solely on one woman for most of the book. I genuinely appreciate the aspect of the journals, particularly the last words and the life lessons they offer. I wish we had more of that kind of vibe through out the book. Also the romance felt a bit forced and unrealistic, like a convenient plot device. However, I’ll admit that I was aweing by the end.
This book is not fast-paced at all; it’s definitely a meandering type of story. I don’t think it was a complete waste of time, but I wish it had been a bit faster-paced, more exciting, and more thought provoking.

DNF at 60%. The story would have been better without Sebastian. The scenes between him and Clover were so uncomfortable in my opinion. Also the synopsis for the book stated that this was a story about Clover and a dying woman’s quest for her to uncover a forgotten love story. That plot point doesn’t even start until about 55% in and by then I found myself not caring what even happens. I also found it strange that Clover is this anxious loner yet she’s travelled all over the world? How did she get the money for that? How does she pay the rent as a death doula even with rent control?
