A wholesome read that urges the reader to savor the life they have. I loved the relationships between Clover and her Grandfather and Claudia! It was SO sweet. ALSO HUGO are you kidding me? What a beautiful man.
Taking off one star for the existence of Sylvie in the story, I really could not stand her or her arc.

This particular book contains one of my 'special interests' in death and death positivity. Clover, our main character, is a death doula who spends most of her time with those facing their final days and need a companion to help them prepare for death. Her life was molded to feel comfort best around the dead and dying and she never found an easy place to fit among the living. However with a new neighbor in her building, and a run-in with a man desperate for someone to help his grandmother who is preparing for death, Clover's world shifts to suddenly experiencing and feeling more than she has in a long time.
Clover is a curious character that I really found to be profoundly kind, but detached from the rest of society and uncomfortable with the idea of being perceived. Boy can I relate with aspects of that. This book is in some ways a small manual on genuine loving-kindness, curiosity and mindfulness as we navigate the awkward and less glimmering bits of our life.

A nice book. Clover was a bit frustrating at times - how can someone travel the wold and relate to clients so easily, and yet be so terrified of people? Overall, though, I enjoyed her exploration of death and what it can teach us about life.
DNF. This book was chosen for my book club. After attending the book club I might try the read it again.
How could such a morbid topic make such a charming book? Good reminder to live well.
