4.5- I loved this and the ending was stunning but WOW have I ever despised a character as much as I did Sebastian
4.5 stars. Once I got to 55%, I was all in and read until I finished it. A very tender read... Full of love, relationships, grief, hope, and amazing quotes. I just loved this so so much. I will miss being in Clovers universe with her sweet mind.

I can't deny that I found Clover insufferable, as well as the simultaneously stiff yet romanticized approach to non-American cultures. The writing also did feel... amateur-ish at times (in what universe would school admin be the ones to tell a child their parents died?? ). However, there was wisdom in this book that everyone benefits from remembering once in a while. While half of the characters were unlikeable, half were lovely. And it's impossible not to tear up at least once while reading, which gives the novel an emotional edge that makes it memorable. I can't say it was life-changing or profoundly moving, but it reminded me of what matters to me and I'm glad I read it.
P.S. — Meeting Hugo and suddenly realizing Clover would end up with him instead of Sebastian was VERY fun (and a huge relief lol)
Graphic: Grief
Minor: Bullying, Cancer, Sexism, Death of parent
eh, it was cute. good premise, pretty mediocre writing. a couple of really good lines, a lot of cringe-inducing ones. harsh coming off of the fantastic prose of Other People’s Clothes to this.

I’m picky about five star reads, and I think I only handed out one last year, but I just thoroughly enjoyed this read. It had moments that weren’t perfect and a few more pop-culture references than I would’ve loved… but that’s okay. I laughed, I smiled, I got misty-eyed. Now I just need to own a physical copy!
