I was already in awe of the life Rick Steves has lived and this book took it to a whole new level. I was transfixed by 23-year-old Rick's recount of his time on the Hippie Trail almost 50 years ago. The "making of a travel writer" part of the subtitle shines through so dynamically. As much as Rick was a changed person as a result of this trip, I feel like a changed person just reading about it.

To supplement this book I had the incredible opportunity to see Rick lecture for 2.5 hours about this trip and so much more. This talk was truly one of the most inspiring, moving, educational, and life changing things I've ever heard. I will forever be a better person because of it. If that statement seems far fetched, then all I have to say is.... you had to be there.

It was a good travel journal, coming of age story. Loved the pictures. Cool to see the origin story!

His epilogue was also great. Travel creates understanding. Truly. But it does take time.
