A quick, interesting read on Rick Steve's travels through India in the 70s. I found the 70s aspect of travel the most interesting part and loved the color photos. It's hilarious to read about Rick smoking pot.
"They [anyone] can get their fingers dirty in other cultures, wallop their ethnocentrism, and come home with that most valuable souvenir: a broader perspective." p.189, Afterword (2022)
As a long time Rick Steves watcher, PBS was one of the few channels I watched as a kid, I really got a kick out of seeing this young & adventurous side of Rick. I'm so, so happy he included his photos from his trip in the book, it was the kind of read that makes you want to hop on a bus and go for an adventure before you've even finished it!
Recommended for teens and up, especially travel buffs or those nervous about a big trip.

Enjoyed this book. I also respect (?) the choice by the author to leave in his, well, slightly problematic observations in some sections of the book...he was 23 and it was the '70s. So it was interesting to read that versus Rick Steves' PBS-friendly persona that I'm used to. Definitely a much more personable and relatable tale than I expected. A beautifully presented travelogue with color photographs / photos of his actual journal woven throughout the book - highly recommend reading as a physical copy if you can.
