I enjoyed reading what are basically Rick Steve’s diary entries from a summer trip, the likes of which few would attempt. But I enjoyed reading it from afar. Would I have done something like that at 23 years of age? No. Do I wish I had? Due to the fact that the author and his travel partner seemed to spend a great percentage of their time either being unwell or trying to avoid becoming unwell, I guess not. But it made for a great read and the descriptions of the places he visited, the 1970s border crossing experiences, etc. fascinated me nonetheless.

I can only imagine the changes he would see were he repeat the trip today. He certainly experienced something that ended the next year with the Iranian revolution and the escalation of conflict in Afghanistan. Perfect timing Rick!!

I was hoping for more of a commentary on traveling today with reflections back to the trip sprinkled throughout the story. This was an actual journal that was published it would seem.
