Everyone should read this. Parents, people who want to be parents, and people who don't want to be parents. Those who are and do will feel some solidarity and understanding, those who don't will have their ignorance smashed to smithereens. After reading this book you'll never think 'why would you bring a child on a train at peak hour?' ever again. Hollie's voice is mesmerising, raw, vulnerable, honest, and full of joy. I applaud her and her bravery.

really enjoyed it! i saw hollie perform/read some bits from this at her show where i worked (from backstage, through a curtain) which was great because i felt like i could hear her voice coming through when i was reading the book. some really powerful, beautiful work and some incredibly funny, truthful moments too. it was frustrating and refreshing to see her perspectives on aspects of pregnancy/having a child which are sad and difficult. the form of this as diary and poetry journal worked brilliantly and it was great to see where certain poems' ~inspirations~ or triggers came from. hollie is such a great poet and her prose has a really rhythmic quality to it too. fab!

Absolutely loved this book! Definitely a must read for all parents, parents to be or anyone who’s ever around someone else’s child or a friend of someone who’s a parent really. This book had every thought, feeling and reaction I’ve had at some point in parenthood!! All those things that no one tells you about before you have a child and then all these things we never speak about even after we do! It is so relatable and hilarious in parts with everything I as a parent can relate to! Loved it and all of the poems are brilliant!

I have to say I have a soft spot for McNish, I saw her performing in Edinburgh a couple of years ago, and she was so amazing! I love how honest she is - open about all her emotions, and struggles. The poems are fun, optimistic, they often rhyme (I especially love her for this), but most importantly they have a message. McNish has a lot to say, and the way she says it - she just makes you listen.
