This is the most realistic, beautiful, sad, and true account of being a mom I have ever read. Hollie’s poems are an absolute perfect representation of the emotions and contradictions of motherhood. There is something so strange and gratifying about reading words written by someone else that perfectly encapsulate emotions and experiences I had myself. I highly recommend this book to every mom I know.

This collection of poetry and diary entries was such a reassuring read, it's always nice to know you're not alone with your anxieties! The poems were beautiful, I especially loved 'Nicking Strawberries' as I continue to embark on my weaning adventure with my son. Hollie McNish has a such a wonderful voice, I adored how frank and raw her writing was, and she makes some inspiring and thoughtful points, particularly around gender expectations and race. I will definitely be following her career with interest now, great read.
A diary of pregnancy and motherhood interspersed with beautiful, relatable poetry. Hollie’s voice is so honest and passionate and reading through it feels like you’re listening to a friend you’ve known for years. An absolute must for any parent or parent to be.
I've often enjoyed listening to McNish's poetry on Facebook. Her observations of life as a mum are spot-on. And so when I spotted this in my local bookshop I thought, yes, this is for me.
I enjoyed the poems in this long book but the prose was like reading someone's unedited diaries. While it's certainly true that I relate to many of her experiences of pregnancy and being a mother of a baby and then a toddler, her experiences are relatable precisely because this is exactly the kind of thing that mums experience. While this relatability makes her poems good, it makes her prose boring. It just isn't interesting to read when it's not in poetry form.
This would have been a 4 star book if an editor had sat down and deleted most of the prose. As it is, I'm giving 2.5 stars.
