A haunting ghost story that I feel like I could return to again to analyze the poetic and symbolic prose that Morrison uses. Memory, history, trauma — these echo throughout this book where Morrison deftly ties together the past with the present, shifting between point of views. What is difference of haunting of remembering the past Sweet Home to the present of experiencing Beloved’s haunting of 124? (Dearly) Beloved is a wonderful novel that deals with an endless amount of complex themes while maintaining at its core the elegiac and cutting prose that Morrison is renowned for.
