I loved bringing in other supernatural beings, I wish the travels through the wild were longer with more creatures, it was interesting... I’m sad about my favorite character and hope she’s ok... can’t wait for the next one!
After reading The Beautiful last year, I was excited to continue the series for the new year.
Pros: I love the pacing in this book, as it feels like everything is unfolding at just the right speed (minus the last scene which was just a bit too fast for my liking). I'm also a sucker for people falling back in love, so that was a bonus. I'm excited to see what the next book brings for the side characters who are just beginning their development.
Cons: It feels almost as if there was too much divulged in this book at once (someone is alive, someone finds out something shocking about their heritage, etc) which makes it a bit confusing at times. Hopefully the next book helps to wrap up some of these larger revelations.

So my rating for the previous book the beautiful was three stars mostly because I didn’t know anyone’s backstory and they didn’t explain what characters were creatures, etc. Luckily this book was able to shed light on who everyone was and where they came from, I feel like most of the holes in the plot had been filled. I feel as though the series could stop with this book here, I don’t know how good the third one is but I’m not very interested to read it. I don’t think I could dread reading the series any longer they were already reaching with making the second book, I don’t think I could get much more out of the third. That being said, this book was also very well written and had some exciting parts. I was hoping for a little more sexy vampire vibe, but this is definitely more of just a fantasy series.
The supernatural plotline really takes center stage in this second book, particularly since we get some information that we were not aware of in the previous book. This, combined with Ahdieh's beautiful writing, serves to make The Damned feel more out of time and place than the first book. Though there were still high action sequences, where our characters find themselves in trouble, this felt more like a journey of self discovery for several of the characters, and character discovery for the reader, as critical back stories are revealed. I'm quite curious to see where the next book takes us!

I put this book down months ago for another project that I can't even remember. Christmas books maybe?? I always intended to come back to it once I finished the other project, and I never did. As the months have gone by, I've felt myself less and less inclined to return to this. Less and less excited to get back into this world. I think, at this point, I would have to start the book from the beginning to really have the desired impact. I'm just not sure that I really want to dedicate that time to this. I was already struggling while reading. I was finding the book a little too slow and meandering for the genre. I like a lot more fast paced action in my YA fantasy/urban fantasy than what this was delivering. The writing was well done and beautiful with a lot of descriptions of the scenery and the clothes, but not really what I look for when thinking about vampires and werewolves and forbidden romances and secret underground societies.
I'm not saying I would never return to this series, I just find it highly unlikely that I will.

2.5 stars but I'm rounding up to 3 because I don't like leaving bad reviews.
There is just way too much going on in this book to care about any of the important stuff. Yeah, I'll probably still read the rest of the series but I can't say I really care about anyone in this book. Maybe all the plots, and subplots, and villains, and other villains will get tied together in the end. Right now, I don't have high hopes...

So... this is NOT A DUOLOGY, RENÉE!
(Mild spoilers, mostly regarding this NOT BEING THE END OF THE STORY.)
I docked a star because there wasn't enough swoony romance for me, but this was a wild tale and the last half of the book kept me reeling from twists and turns!
The beginning of the book was great, too. Bastien dealing with his new state of being was especially well-written and I really enjoyed seeing his struggle play out on the page throughout the book. Celine remains fierce and magnificent, and even without her memories she's not willing to put up with Bastien's BS!
I'm mostly just shook that this isn't it. Once I hit 75% and there were too many loose ends, I just had a feeling... ahhhh! We also see so little of Bastien's sister here, and she's definitely going to be trouble, but on top of that we get introduced to the fey properly and that involves a whole other level of complications. There's so much to work with and I kinda hope this ends up being a quartet, because a trilogy doesn't feel like enough!
