definitely not as good as the first book but it wasn’t entirely terrible. There definitely could’ve been some more aspects that could’ve made the book more entertaining but I get the feeling that this book was setting up for the next books in the series since she changed her mind and decided to make it a series instead of a standalone novel.
Celine didn’t have as good of a role in this book as she had in the previous book. When her memories were taken something about her personality disappeared and it happened to be the thing that I love most about her and it was her independence and her fearlessness.
Bastion also wasn’t intriguing to me when he had his own pov for the majority of the book. It was like the mystery of him kind of was taken away when we got to see him way more vulnerable and emotional.
But I like the possibility of Celine having powers or whatever so I am going to read the next book. The way this is going is reminding me of the third book in blood and ash so we’ll see

I'm sorry but this was such a gorgeous book and a solid sequel to the first one. Are they a bit slow? I guess, but I don't mind that at all.
In this one we get multiple POVs and many revelations, and it was such a thrill reading the last 100 pages.
Can't wait to read the next one. Renée Ahdieh does not disappoint me.

The first book didn’t deliver what I wanted from it, but I was intrigued enough to continue with this book as the first book ended where things began to get interesting. Following the events of The Beautiful, Sébastien Saint Germain is now cursed and forever changed. The treaty between the Fallen and the Brotherhood has been broken, and war between the immortals seems imminent. The price of loving Celine was costly, but Celine has also paid a high price for loving Bastien. Still recovering from injuries sustained during a night she can't quite remember, her dreams are troubled. And she doesn't know she has inadvertently set into motion a chain of events that could lead to her demise and unveil a truth about herself she's not ready to learn. Forces hiding in the shadows have been patiently waiting for this moment, and just as Bastien and Celine begin to uncover the danger around them, they learn their love could tear them apart. It has been a while since reading the previous book in the series, so I was curious to see if I would be able to jump back into this world without rereading The Beautiful. Within the first few chapters, it is very apparent that I will prefer The Damned over the previous book. This book does a good job at world-building and improving upon the storylines introduced in the first book. The first book was very much a slow unveiling of the supernatural world, while this book is a further exploration of that world. This book gave me everything I wanted out of the first book. Like the first book, this book was mostly world-building but unlike the first book, this book explored the supernatural mythology of this world and went much deeper than the previous book. This book also felt like it finished right when things were heating up, but this book is comparably much more interesting than the previous one. I was ambivalent about this series when I finished the previous book, but after finishing The Damned I am much more interested in what happens next. I will absolutely be continuing onto the next book in the series when I have the time.
More like 3.5 or 3.75 - liked it better than the first one but some things still felt off.
3 stars. This was better than book one but that's not really saying much honestly. I still don't know any of the damn characters names because I don't care but at least this one was way more action packed and interesting. There was a lot going on and I was invested in the plot for sure. Ahdieh's writing is gorgeous and I think she did a much better job with the pacing in this one because I feel like I flew through this. I'll read book three but this series isn't anything spectacular. They're fun for what they are though.

soz guysss i was so invested in and grateful for all the lore + focus on the supernaturals! but eventually it once again felt like nothing was happening. my mind simply refused to process the book after a certain point and that is a surefire sign for me that i need to move along </3
