slow-paced
I loved the first book so much I read it in 2 days. This book however took me almost a week.
It was hard to get through for me, mostly a slow pace. I feel like the book did not have a direction until half way through.
I will still read the third book because I want to know how the story ends.

i’m sorry but the audiobook is not it. the voice for one of the kings sounded like the narrator was gargling marbles
“What you are has no bearing on who you become, Sebastien. Man or demon, that is entirely up to you. It is never too late to chase the better version of yourself.”
I don't think a book could ever be more beautiful than Renee Ahdieh's writing.
This is why I love reading so much.
How a writing, words and narrative have the power make people fall in love with a story.
I love The Damned so much!
The series itself is gorgeously romantic.
I thought I love the first book but The Damned got me even more in love.
I honestly enjoyed the slow burn of the storyline.
The pace of the book keeps me enchanted with the world.
The first book disappointment was not having enough vampire content.
Since it was highly hype for it to be a vampire and werewolf story.
In the second book we definitely receive a more paranormal storyline.
After reading this, I think its definitely a more highly romance focus storyline than paranormal and I am not complaining at all.
I enjoy that we get so much Bastien's POV in this one and of course his squad.
Everyone's POV was so good, I love that the side character's storyline is as interesting as the main ones.
Especially Arjun and Pippa's, I want more of their POV and to follow their storyline.
Pippa is definitely up to something.
I thought I was in love with Bastien from the first book.
I am even more in love with him after finishing The Damned.
There is so much secrets and storyline to from everyone.
Thank god we are getting a third book!
We still need to know about Celine's past, and that cliffhanger!
Bastien's childhood and him being a vampire.
Overall, i enjoyed The Damned so much!
The emotions, action, world building, character building was PERFECT.

The Beautiful, Renée Ahdieh’s first installment in this series, was honestly just okay with the final few chapters elevating the narrative and pushing me to read The Damned. And I am so glad I did.
Vampires and werewolves have fallen out of favor given the craze about ten years ago. But trust me, these vampires do not glitter in the sun or mope in the shadows. They are fearsome, strong, and sexy. The Damned is a solid novel by Ahdieh that felt like a merging of old school Anne Rice and the early (and still good) days of The Originals and Underworld.
I know this book is not for everyone, but it worked for me. Highly recommend this series.

3.5/5 stars
objectively, i know that The Beautiful books aren’t pinnacles of literature or whatever, but i can’t help it! they’re just so mindlessly enjoyable and perfectly suited to my guilty pleasures. i mean, you’re talking vampires *and* forbidden paranormal romance, what more could a girl ask for??

This was one of the best sequels that I’ve ever read. I loved The Beautiful so much, but the ending of it had me cautious going into The Damned. This book did not let me down! Renée Ahdieh has such a gorgeous way of writing, this story sucked me in from the first page.
I loved being back in this world! Celine and Bastien are some of my favorite characters and it was so nice to be back with them. I find Celine so relatable. She’s funny and stubborn and not afraid of anything. And her love story with Bastien is swoon-worthy. Plus, the concept of vampires in gothic New Orleans is still so alluring, and the magic only grew in this book.
In The Beautiful we got teased with mentions of the Sylvan Vale and the Sylvan Wild, magical lands on another plane where vampires originally hailed from, along with many other magical creatures. But while The Beautiful danced around mentions of anything magical outright, The Damned dives right in and answers all of our questions. We get to travel to those lands and see how different they are from the mortal-world.
We get to see the vampire clan, but this time it’s with all the layers peeled back. We also get to see more of the werewolves, which hail from the Sylvan Wyld along with vampires. We learn more about the pack and how Michael Grimmaldi is tied to them. We also get to learn more about the other magical creatures from the Sylvan Vale, including enchantresses and ethereals who possess magical abilities. And we uncover how Celine is tied into this world in more ways than one.
This book did everything right. I think it would have been so easy for Ahdieh to fall into the vampire-werewolf love-triangle thing that's been done a million times before. Instead of falling into that trope, she turns it on its head. I also loved how we got to learn more about Bastien and Michael’s childhood falling-out. I’m curious how that is going to play into the final book. I’m also eager to see Celine come into her own in this magical world!
The final book, The Righteous, is coming out in 2021 and I honestly don’t know if I can wait that long! I could not recommend this series more highly.

The second book in this series increased my enjoyment! I learned more about the characters I was curious about and it felt like less world development and more story!
Ya’ll are nuts. This was great and I’ll gladly fight you.
I didn’t have low expectations of this, I LOVED the first one. It was a solid, gothic, vampire romance. Now we’re in an epic and complex fantasy world filled with fae and the same dashing characters and beautiful descriptors. Sooooooo YEAH. I’m glad I ignored all the unusual, and low ratings and just went for it. Because now I have a new favorite vampire series.
