3.5/4
I liked this book. I was never bored and the characters were likable. The writing was smooth and straight to the point, poetic without trying too hard, and the plot was fun. Well, not fun considering the seriousness of this book, but it was enjoyable to read. With that being said, it did not stand out to me. It didn't make me tear up, my jaw never dropped. It was just good in a basic sort of way. Had I been a younger teenager when I read this, I probably would have swooned over it much more. After all, it is a YA novel. But anyways, I recommend. Its worth checking out if the synopsis sounds interesting to you.

DID NOT FINISH

Am sorry but I couldnt finish this book to save my life.
challenging dark sad

This book was okay.
I've read much better contemporary. Don't get me wrong - it was a good story. It had its ups, but I keep getting stuck on the downs. Honestly, she just droned on about memories that were either bittersweet or sugar-high-sweet, which would have been fine with me if they tied in better. I totally agreed with and understood her decision until she changed it at the last second. I get why Mia decided that, but not Forman.
Overall, If I Stay is a solid 3-star. I'll still read [b:Where She Went|8492825|Where She Went (If I Stay, #2)|Gayle Forman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347810457s/8492825.jpg|10706553], I'll see the movie when it comes on Redbox, & eventually I'll get to [b:Just One Day|17623975|Just One Day (Just One Day, #1)|Gayle Forman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1368722144s/17623975.jpg|17992862]. Just not today.
If you really want an inspirational contemporary, [b:The Perks of Being a Wallflower|22628|The Perks of Being a Wallflower|Stephen Chbosky|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1363910637s/22628.jpg|2236198] cannot be hyped enough.

If I Stay was written well, but some of the clichés were a little hard to read. Overall I’d say the book wasn’t anything special, more like something to pass the time. I am however looking forward to reading the second book.

Make sure you have the next book on hand when you finish this one. Gahhhhhhhh

If I Stay is a very amazing and hearbreaking book. One thing I love about it is that you have no idea what will happen in the end. The writing is very good and the main character, Mia, is so smart, talented, reflective, and strong. When I first started reading If I Stay I wasn't a hundred percent sure about what the plot was, but after reading the first couple of pages I got it. I'm very excited to read the next book, to see Where She Went, haha :)

I could not put this book down, I read through it in one night. I would suggest anyone to read this book.

It sure made me cry.
