overall enjoyed this book. it's an interesting sci-fi horror but i personally didn't find it that scary. i have read the whole trilogy and would recommend just reading Annihilation. if you want to know the key thing revealed in the other books

it's an alien planet. once you cross the border you are actually on another planet. you get no other answers as to what it is, or why it came about, just that it's an old technology from a long-dead species??

just read Annihilation, your ideas about Area X will be more interesting
