I don't even know what to say. Six of Crows made me fall in love with this crew. And Crooked Kingdom just made me fall even harder that I somehow could not stop reading but also wanted to delay leaving these characters behind. I laughed, I cried bawled, I stopped to let a moment sink in, I shed some tears, I welled up with pride, then I cried some more (yes, there really was a lot of crying).

I admit Six of Crows was hard to get into at first because I was completely new to the Grishaverse. But once the world-building was set, I was all in. And with Crooked Kingdom, there was not much exposition to do, you just go straight to the story with the characters which made it an even better read than Six of Crows for me.

Aside from the characters which I can go on and on about, I have to praise the plot itself, too. Everything was set up so well that everything just made sense. As much as I don't want to say goodbye to these characters yet, it really is one of the best conclusions I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

Truly compelling and masterfully crafted, Leigh Bardugo is truly a Grisha, a Corporalki able to both rend and heal your heart with her cruel and beautiful tales. My friend Alice was so right to keep insisting that I read this series. As much as I hate Kaz, he is wonderfully written, Inej is epic, Jesper is hilarious and precise, Nina is witty and pragmatic, Matthias is gorgeous and admirable in his change of heart which made his fate all the more lamentable, and Wylan is adorable and his struggles of character and family are fascinating. I find this book was even better than the first with all of its swerving twists and triumphant victories coming from the most downtrodden individuals in all of Kerch. Inej’s reunion at the end Gad me close to tears and the development of Nina’s unique power was eerie and fascinating. Leigh Bardugo is a master of her own Small Science—the manipulation of words for her own incredible manifestations! When you can’t beat the odds, change the game.
