Ugh does it get any better than Nico freaking Russo? ❤️

I have a lot of things to say but first let me clear something, I think dark romance isn’t for me.
I couldn’t stand the misogyny this book had and the objectification of women, it was too much.
At first I really like Elena’s character but she disappointed me, I didn’t feel any depth in her character and she was too submissive to Nicolas so soon and she lacked self respect.

“And it began. He was going to parade girls in front of me like I was nothing. Maybe he thought that because I wasn't a virgin I didn't deserve his respect.”
I wanted to punch her here.
Also this part icked me :

“However, infidelity was a fixed denominator in a Made Man. Like a surfer and a board. A writer and a pen.
You couldn't separate the two. And asking would be a fruitless endeavor.”

And for Mr Nicolas, I don’t like him at all he was so hard to like and misogynistic :

“I wanted to know how many men there'd been, their names, and everything they did to her, so I could do it twice as hard and make her forget they existed.
I wondered if she was on the pill, and in a disturbing way kind of hoped she wasn't. I wanted an irrevocable tie to this woman. I wanted to write my name on her skin, to do all kinds of fucked-up shit so she knew she was mine. Like lock her in my room and hand-feed her.”

Yeah so this is my review and as I said before I just think dark romance isn’t for me if these are the themes that I am going to find in every book of this genre.
I don’t know what I was expecting, maybe a badass female character who was against the norms of her society and isn’t going to ask her husband and beg him not to cheat on her or a girl who isn’t going to belittle herself just because she’s not a virgin. I swear reading this book felt like talking to someone in the 80s or 90s and telling them that wake up women are not properties and they also have brains and they can take care of themselves too.

3.5⭐

unpopular opinion, this one outdoes christian&gianna's book
yes the whole engaged to her sister thing was a turn off for me thats why i prolonged this book so long after reading obsession bUT it was SO good
the snarkiness, the pettiness, the unknowing attraction, the twisted games, the cigs convos - omg so many scenes about this couple BEFORE the smut scenes I LOVE THIS, he was so adamant to not be in a crowd of men who just drool over her appearance and was more attracted to her after she gave him hell
a little detail i noticed that i love about elena, was how unassuming she was about the male gazes her way, idk if she mentioned it once and then you cut to his pov and all male convos are about my girl
i liked also how he didnt live in a typical mansion but just a cute little house with his little car-fixing hobby - the fact he woke up and was like 'hmm i'd like to bring elena with me to this event that makes me happy' THAT WAS SO HOT DUDE
and after all her fuckery, he still forgave her so quickly, THATS WHAT LOVE IS
he fell first and HARDER <3

I feel like I’ve set feminism back 50 years reading this book. The characters are bland. The story? Yep, bland. The FMCs main concern was that she couldn’t cook… fml.

Now, I’ve read my fair share of mafia romance but this was not it. I’ve never felt so disconnected to a character than I have with the FMC. If this was the 1950’s and I was reading this book? Then I would probably gobble it up. But with it being 2025, I just can’t subject my mind to this any longer. So many points in this book made my eyes roll so hard, I saw stars (not the good kind).

the sweetest oblivion by danielle lori was a mixed experience for me. the first 150+ pages frustrated me – elena and nicolas (soon to be brother-in-law) are clearly drawn to each other, but while she tells him not to cheat on adriana (her sister), she still keeps entertaining the attraction – from letting him touch her to purposely flaunting herself around him. that whole dynamic just felt off, especially considering he was her sister’s fiancé.

the plot itself felt a bit flat in the first half, but things picked up once nicolas and elena actually got together. their slow build, some sweet moments, the "my wife" energy, and fun cousin banter made the second half much more enjoyable.

what really bothered me was the classic double standard – nicolas has a past full of women, but elena is judged hard for not being a virgin. the slut-shaming really killed some of the charm for me.

still, i’m curious about christian and gianna’s story. hopefully book two brings better balance!

Mafiosos vestidos de rosa, que más querés flaco.

I didn’t enjoy the relationship between the two main characters.
