To premise, I have never really been one for dark romances. I got this book because I was tired of the recommendations piling up in my favorites in TikTok, and it was the first one from the most recent video I had saved. Despite the recent string of disappointments I had endured from BookTok leading me astray, I found myself pleasantly surprised at this one.
This book was genuinely a pleasant read. The author didn't waste any time with a massive buildup and backstory instead of launching essentially right into the plot. I really enjoyed the author's writing style too, and there weren't any cheesy pop culture references haphazardly tossed in. That alone brings the rating up.
But what really sold me in this book what the chemistry between these two. It was so palpable I couldn't believe no one else in the book figured it out before they did. The energy between Nico and Elena was electrifying. Haunting. Very hot. You didn't even need spicy scenes to feel the emotion between these two. That being said, the spice in this book...

An okay mafia romance. The mmc was… not my favorite and he was a bit too much. The fmc was also a bit too much. I had to take breaks reading this because it was boring.
