Did feminism leave my body every time I opened the book? For Nico, yes, it did.

The Sweetest Oblivion left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, I genuinely enjoyed reading it. I flew through over 250 pages in a single day, which hasn’t happened to me in years. The book had that addictive, easy-read quality that keeps you turning the pages even if, plot-wise, not much is happening. In fact, the story is entirely centered on the romance between Elena and Nico, without much else going on. Yet somehow, it never felt boring, and that alone is impressive.

I liked how their relationship developed. It was somewhat of a slow burn, with real tension and hesitation before giving in to their feelings. Every time they were in the same room, you could feel the spark between them. Nico had his moments, intense, dramatic, even over-the-top in the best ways. While I wouldn’t call him a book boyfriend, I can’t deny he made me feel things. I mean, setting a gas station on fire for her? That’s wild, but kind of effective in this kind of romance. That said, some of his lines felt harsh or jarring. I get that this is a dark romance, and certain behaviors come with the territory, but a few moments really didn’t sit right with me.

Elena, on the other hand, didn’t leave a strong impression. She was okay, but her character felt underdeveloped. The miscommunication between her and Nico was especially frustrating (both were guilty of it) and it weakened the emotional connection.

The ending, while sweet, felt a bit rushed. I wish there had been more time to deepen their relationship beyond physical attraction. It felt like they loved each other without fully knowing one another, and that left me wanting more.

All in all, The Sweetest Oblivion was a quick, compelling read with little plot but a lot of tension. It’s not emotionally deep or complex, but it delivers on atmosphere and steamy moments.

This book will always have a special place in my heart - arguably the biggest space regarding books - because it got me started on dark romance and really manifested my overall taste in romance. I have read many books after finishing this one, but while I had a great time reading them, they also made me aware of how much I love the sweetest oblivion. This is in my humble opinion and everyone is allowed to disagree, but this story contains the perfect amount of tension between the main characters, the right amount of spice, unforgettable chemistry and most of all two characters, that you can‘t help falling in love with. When I tell you I haven‘t been able to forget nico and elena, despite the large selection of mafia dark romance stories I MEAN IT
There‘s just something so painfully beautiful about these two finding each other in this mess and being so aware of each other‘s presence. People often ask me what my favourite book of all time is and I have a hard time answering that, since each book awoke something meaningful in me… however IF I was to answer from the bottom of my heart, it would most likely be this book, because no matter the amount of times I reread it - I always seem to fall in love again and with a more intense feeling than before #AaronWarnerStyle
