Hilarious series that my kids want to read over & over. Great for a starter for chapter books as there aren't too many sentences on a single page and plenty of bright illustrations. Fun/ adventurous story line. I wish there were more of these!

A cute emerging reader book about a pig named Mercy who loves buttered toast. In a roundabout way, she ends up saving Mr. and Mrs. Watson from falling through a hole in their ceiling in their bed. I bet kids would like this one for its sillyness, so I will definitely recommend it and its sequels.

I’m reading through these books as part of the read-aloud program I’ve put together for my three year-old son. I firmly believe he’s still too young for any kind of formal education, but I also passionately believe that the most powerful thing I can do to shape their education is read aloud with them. That being said, the Mercy Watson series are PERFECT for kids ages 3-6. My three year-old giggles all the way through, and even my five year-old is engaged and chuckling the entire time. I read no more than three chapters per day in order to accommodate the limited (read: almost nonexistent...) attention span of a three year-old. But my five year-old always begs for more!

These books are imaginative, adventurous, hilarious, and downright delightful. The sentences are simple and short, the vocabulary is also fairly simple and easy to comprehend, and the illustrations are so fun. I highly recommend these books, especially for reading aloud with very young kids!

This is a children's book geared towards 1st grade students. I read it to preview it for my classroom. It was a delightful story about a pig, her human owners, and her silly neighbors. From a teacher perspective, I like that it had short chapters, only a few sentences per page, appropriate vocabulary (aside from describing Mercy as a porcine wonder), and nice colorful pictures. If you're looking for an early chapter book, or an animal story for your first grader, check it out.

It's Kate DiCamillo, okay? It's gonna be great.
Plus, toast features heavily in this book.

It'd make a marvelous read-aloud.
