So, So weird. A prequel to area X but actually explains some of the backstory for Area X. Lowery is still a turd. Old Jim and Cass were wonderful characters. The rabbits were weird, and I will continue to avoid alligators. I really need to do a reread of Area X very soon.

I’m so glad we got to look into the past and understand the events that lead to Area X. I’m still let with many questions, but I feel satisfied with the information given. We’re left to decide for ourselves if we trust the theories of the narrators or if we want to believe our own theories.

I loved the first two sections of the book. They had my attention GRASPED and it felt like we got a taste of new information on every page. I found last section much more difficult to get through. The cursing was a bit intense, and while I admire Vandermeer’s ability to vividly paint a character, it was just a bit much. However, all in all, a wonderful read.
