I enjoyed the other books in this series and this book had moments of being enjoyable, but it felt way too long and there is somehow less going on than any of the previous three books.

This was my least favorite of the Southern Reach series. While the original three were dream like and left me with so many questions they were a joy to read and really wrapped you in the world.

This one fell apart in the second half when we get to Lowry’z perspective and it’s obviously supposed to be unhinged and disorienting but it gets repetitive and exhausting.

I’ll keep considering these a trilogy.

probably my least favorite of the southern reach series, but still very intriguing in its own way. I didn’t like the characters as much as ones in past books. I liked Old Jim but not really the others. Lowry was certainly a change from character types i’m used to, so interesting in that way but also kind of disturbing. Also maybe the most like horror of all the books in the series I think? (although it’s been a long time since I’ve read some of them)
