As with other books in the Area X series, the second I finish a chapter I’m already impatient to read it again. I’m such a fan of Vandermeer’s weird and wonderful imagination and I know I’ll be reading this one again many times in the future.

Starts really slow and confusing, not in an interesting way like Annihilation. Just wasn’t motivated to pick the book up and read.

I came to book 4 looking for answers and closure on books 1-3. It did not deliver this in a satisfying way, but I still enjoyed the continuation of the mystery. It has been about 10 years since I read the first Southern Reach books! Imagine if extraterrestrial life came to earth, but it appeared in a way that just made everything act like a terrifying mushroom trip. This book is weird, and twisted, and a little horrific. I honestly had to go to Reddit to read theories on how to interpret the ending, haha.
