I wanted to love this book but I was unfortunately so bored throughout the whole thing. The writing style was fascinating and expiramental and very well done, but maybe that also contributed to my lack of immersion in the story. On paper this feels like something that would be right up my alley, but I didn't really care about anything that happened.

conceptually really liked this but i don’t think simon jimenez is a great prose writer and that got in the way a bit :p

Perhaps I'll continue one day. I think a lot went over my head. I also had some trouble with the very very long chapters (like 70 pages). That just doesn't work for me. The writing was very special, too, which took some getting used to. I think those two things combined is why I had trouble getting 'in' the book. I honestly have nothing bad to say about it, it just didn't really work for me, at this time.

A masterclass in narrative structure and storytelling, this is unlike anything I have ever read. This book is at once an intergenerational drama and a fantastical myth that masterfully jumps through and between settings, times, and points of view. I will be thinking about this book and these characters for a long long time.

I would recommend to those who enjoyed Piranesi, This is How you Lose the Time War, and the Fifth Season
