my goddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd.

This novel is a gay bildungsroman and a beautiful one. A young wounded soldier recuperates from a knee injury & has to navigate through his experience being a gay man & figure out what he means for him personally-is it an individual experience VS a political identity.

Clearly the best way to do so is to fall in love with two men at the same time, a conscientious objector & a naval officer from his past. The first time ever a love triangle did not annoy me! Both the men are very likeable & their relationships with the protagonist are both so lovely and surprisingly I was happy with the outcome?!

The attention to detail in this book is amazing, the writing is so lovely, the only kinda negative thing I can say it was written in the 1950s and some of the vocabulary is like, so hard to understand. To make things worse a lot of the subject matter in the book is (strongly) implied or said through innuendo, but I think it gets easier to pick up on as you go.

Read it if: YOU WANT SOME GOOD GAY SHIT!!!!!!!

4.5 stars

The only reason this wasn't a 5 star book for me was because it did have a moment where it dragged a bit towards the end. But otherwise this book was amazing. It was tender and heartfelt and engaging and just hurt beautifully at the end.
