Viola Davis’s “Finding Me”
It is not possible to fail to find Viola Davis to be immensely interesting, talented, and so incredibly vulnerable. She won her EGOT for this audiobook. That’s kind of all you need to know. (Other than she was robbed of an Oscar for “Doubt”.)
Except, how can you not listen to her tell you any story, but most importantly her own? The audiobook is the way to go with this one. Because she’s speaking directly to you. Savor the time with her.
A+

I loved Viola Davis before, and my respect for her has only grown through listening to her book. She lays bare the hard, complicated details of her childhood and personal life, realities of becoming a working actor and the challenges of being a Black woman in the industry. In every way, hers is a story of incredible strength and resilience. It makes me even happier for all her success.

FINDING ME by Viola Davis. Listen to her.
What more can I say about this incredibly moving memoir?
After watching The Woman King, which is spectacular, I was so glad to listen to her story told by her. She is absolutely beautiful and though her story is beyond anything I could pretend to imagine, it brings so much beauty into this world through her. I am broken and convicted, inspired and left breathless.
You are the Beautiful and Mighty Woman King, Ms. Davis, and I am so thankful to get to bear some witness to your journey and the real you.

This is a powerful story about poverty, race, trauma and not letting it stand in the way of following a dream by examining and learning to accept herself.
Moderate: Bullying, Racism, Domestic abuse, Alcoholism, Addiction, and Sexual assault
