I once read a Neil Gaiman book and hated it. I actually forgot about it until I was 3/4ths of a way done with this one, while I disliked I have previously read from him I actually liked this one alot better. And just for the record this just isn't my type of genre, but I went out on a limb and really enjoyed it.

The Graveyard Book is about Nobody, no really it's about Nobody Owens, a boy who was raised in a grave yard by ghosts. When Nobody was a infant his family was brutally murdered, Nobody was also on the hit list but missed it by a hair when he unknowingly of what was happening, climbed out of his crib and ventured out into the night. That's where the sprits of the grave yard took them under their wing and kept him safe. The story goes on as Nobody grows begins to grow up, it tells the stories of close encounters with the outside and super natural world. He later learns of his families slaying and finds out the killer is still out large and wants to finish the job by killing him. He wants to know why someone was after his family that terrible night and why someone was still looking for him.

I recommend this book if your into ghost or super natural stories, a fan of Neil Gaiman and like a interesting read. I feel this was focused for a younger crowd but over all can be enjoyed by adults as well, especially during Halloween.

After reading the graphic novel version of this story, i have been looking forward to reading this original novel version. It did not disappoint in the least. This is probably my favorite of all the Neil Gaiman that i have read. The Graveyard Book is creative and brilliant. And it is as heartwarming as a graveyard could possibly be. I will not say anything else about the tale except that you really want to read this story. Really. Excellent!!!

I enjoyed this story. I think my 12 yo nephew would like it, but not his 9 yo sister. Age difference not gender difference being the divider. It fits very comfortably alongside Coraline on the bookshelf.
