The Hangman was a fast paced novella and helped me get out of a reading slump. The short novella was written for GoodReads Canada, a literacy organization to help adult readers. I love the cause and commend Louise Penny for being a part of it. I am definitely interested in reading more from this author.

This is a novella written in simplified English, primarily for new readers.
As such, it misses a lot of the nuances and clever language of the longer books. The atmosphere of Three Pines and the depth of relationships is also missing. It's an enjoyable enough story, but the nature of the beast (see what I did there?) means it's not up to the standard of the longer Gamache books.
