I enjoyed this book more than the first. Still took me a bit to get into the book and then finish it. Love a strong FMC and the MMC, James, is to die for.

What a brilliant introduction to Katee Robert's work. I haven't read the first book in this series, but still found the book easy to read as a standalone. I have, however, purchased book one, to devour straightaway. Yes, this book is that good.

I was very taken by the whole family and tradition aspect of the blurb. It really pulled me in, especially when you teamed this up with the bubbling romance that seems to be surfacing. I liked the thought of breaking tradition, being dangerous and starting something new. The romance side of the plot was very well written. I did find that I would have liked more of the family 'issues' to crop up more, as it was such a big part of why their romance was forbidden. However, we only saw it in the latter half of the read. I still thoroughly enjoyed it and feel it was a well written plot overall. The romance was written as to not be too soppy, but was intense, exciting and captivating.

The two main characters were easy to fall for. They were both from families who left a little to be desired, with their actions and beliefs, and their families were sworn enemies. However, there is so much more to them than meets the eye. Under the surface, they are the change that needs to happen, even if it is rough going. (It kind of reminds me of the premise of hatred turned love in Pocahontas, which I always thought was brilliant. The story is nowhere near similar, but the background is, in a way.)

I liked that the characters were brought to life with lots of detail, interaction and personality. With each step, in their love story, you get to know more about them and their lives, making it exceptionally easy to really connect with and fall for them.

The pace of the book was great. It gave you plenty of time to get to know them and their story, really get attached and then watch as they see where their emotions take them. However, we also had fast, twisting moments, where the family and other issues become involved. I loved those twists.

Overall, I was very impressed with this read and look forward to popping back to read book one. I highly recommend giving this book and author a go.

The Wedding Pact (The O'Malleys #2) by Katee Robert is the second book in the O'Malleys series. If you did not read the first book, you will want to read that one first. There is a lot of back story that you need to understand about these characters and these families that you will miss if you do not read the books in order. Each book kind of sets the stage for the next book in the series as well, so that will give you a great foundation for what is to come. This is the story of Carrigan O'Malley and James Halloran.

Carrigan O'Malley is a pawn in her fathers grab for more power, more territory in the mob war that he has with the Halloran family. She is given a very short list of men to choose from, and not one of them is the one man that makes her want, the man that makes her feel safe, her sworn enemy, James Halloran.

James knows that he and Carrigan got off on the wrong foot. He knows that he screwed up when it cames to her. But he cannot forget what it felt like to hold her in his arms, to kiss her, to touch her, to make love to her. As he gets pulled deeper and deeper into the family business, it is Carrigan that helps James keep the darkness at bay. It is Carrigan that helps James hold on to a piece of his humanity.

As decision time comes for Carrigan, she will risk everything to keep James safe, even if it means putting herself in harms way, and James will move mountains to keep Carrigan from making a mistake that will cost both of them a future together.

I loved the chemistry and the connection between James and Carrigan. He promises to always be there for her if she needs him, and she will do anything, even defy her own father to keep James safe. When they are together you can tell that they trust each other in ways that they don't trust other people in their lives. They have truly become each others safe place.

It was better than the first one in the sense of being more a mafia romance. I didn’t however fell in love with any specific character or with the characters that would be focused in the next book. Or really have a desire to continue the series.

A forbidden romance is going to do it for me every single time 🫦 Katee Robert just knows how to write such good characters. Both characters had so much depth to them and it was easy to sympathize with their storylines. James will hold a special place in my heart. He always listened and payed attention to Carrigan. I loved that he knew she needed space and allowed for her to grow and come to him when she was ready. Carrigan was a lovely character that wanted to break free from the mold placed on her life. I liked that she had a fire to her and didn’t back down. Honestly I think this book was better than the first book.
