It should have never taken Finn and Lincoln—working in the same office—an entire book to have a single simple conversation. Especially stupid that literally everyone else knew Except Lincoln. It’s a bad look for the “hero” to be so disconnected from his sibling and business partner that they can’t even talk for 30 seconds. Without that ridiculous miscommunication subplot, I might have rated it higher. Although the timeline was confusing too. Lincoln had been back for years and never met his brothers bestie? Never even clued in that she might be the woman he was looking for? So stupid.

Oh, and another thing…I don’t mind spicy books, but when there’s a six page, detailed sex scene and nothing has changed between the characters since the last six page sex scene, why is it there? It doesn’t move the plot and feels super gratuitous and frankly boring.

Ever since Lincoln Scott retired from the Marines, he’s been desperate to find a girl he knows only as Joanna. Joanna wrote him letters while he was serving, and her letters gave him hope and kept him sane. To his horror, when he finally finds her, he finds out she’s his little brother’s best friend - and he’s in love with her. In his attempt to be a good brother, Lincoln tries to resist the attraction he feels to Joanna. But when that plan fails, Lincoln must decide if his relationship with Joanna is worth destroying everything else - including his relationship with his brother.

This book was absolutely amazing!!! I especially liked the twist on the classic “best friend’s brother” trope, where it is actually Lincoln who is struggling the most here, not Joanna. Lincoln’s military trauma was very well written in my opinion. I liked Joanna as well because she wasn’t the usual delicate feminine main character. Joanna is a tomboy while also being beautiful, and that’s a combination you don’t see often. Joanna and Lincoln’s chemistry was absolutely explosive, and I was very satisfied with how everything played out. Hendrix is a new to me author, but I know I will be watching for what she writes next! I give this book 5 steamy stars!

Really enjoyed the elements going on and how everything was set up but the back and forth and miscommunication bothered me a bit. Overall though was a cute read :)

This book was amazing!!! What a beautiful, spicy, love story with a fantastic storyline. Strong female characters, military background (that was so well written! My heart oh my god, whenever Lincoln’s Marine memories were discussed I was right there with him. Feeling the intense emotions, the tragedies, the brutality, and essentially the hardened mindset of someone who is serving/served.), and FINALLY a gay character who was not created in the same mold that SO many writers (film and books) limit the characters to!

**Spoilers**

I was so surprised and happy when the bomb was dropped that Lincoln’s brother was gay. As a reader I appreciated this so much; I never come across a small town love story (interconnected or stand alone) that has a gay character and I have been waiting for it! He was a great addition and I loved the friendship between him and Jo. And just his entire demeanor, I wanted to be his best friend lol!

Jo and Lincoln had you rooting for both of them the entire way. Jo was a tall, tomboy, humble, fit woman. And I really related to her character. She struggled with her insecurity of not feeling feminine enough…yet she never changed herself or let that suffocate her. She just kept on being herself but yearned for acceptance one day. She was such a badass!

Then Lincoln, his demons were really heart wrenching to read. So when the problems arised in the story, it made sense why he made the decisions he made. It was the cherry on top that he eventually took the time to find help in order to learn how to have a healthier relationship with Jo. This man was just so loveable; the amount of times he showed his love for Jo made me tear up. The gestures, the words, his loyalty to her…swoon worthy. Absolutely loved this book! And the bonus epilogue, yes yes yes! Nothing but a huge smile on my face and heart eyes after finishing.
