This is a great 40k book and explored both the history and depth of traitor space marines. I would recommend this as a read for any 40k fan and certainly a good starter book for someone looking to get into 40k as well. Amazing start to a trilogy.
ADB out here making me want to build a night lords army… how’d that happen?
Space marines are the best part of 40k and I'm tired of pretending they're not
I've never actually pretended otherwise, but it is refreshing to get a good book about traitor Astartes. I didn't know anything about the Night Lords before this book and now I think they're cool
This book has most things you'd want from 40k including void war and ground assault. Only the barest mention of xenos though if that's your thing. I'll definitely continue the series

4/4.5 an absolutely cracking book! How warhammer 40K should be written. Brilliant characters, gripping plot, awesome combat and just immerses you in the world of 40K.
Started strong but quickly fizzled. Meandering, plotless, pointless.
Fun little bit of Grimdark candy. I tend to enjoy world-building better than action in genre fiction, but I have to say a couple of the battles (the one in the Machine-priest's chamber in particular) stood out as my favorite parts of this one. I am a bit concerned that I was told this was some of the best 40k fiction and I only feel about a 3 star rating for it.

It was OK, felt a bit flat after the Eisenhorn triology (which was my first 40k read). Started reading the omnibus, but felt that the first book was enough from this story for me.
