Twice Cursed is a fantastic horror anthology with something for all horror fans. Some of the authors in this quick and easy to read anthology were new to me and it was a pleasure to get to read their works. It certainly has encouraged me to seek out other stories by these authors. This collection also includes some big names from the horror/thriller world and as always these authors don't disappoint. Thank you to the author's featured here for a fantastic and fun read.

This is actually a "sequel" to a previous short story book (which I was not aware of until I read this one), called Cursed. It is an absolutely delightful collection of stories, all involving some manner of being cursed (or, in some cases, cursing)..

Some of the tales are reimaginings of traditional fairy tales, and some are more original. For the record, my spell-checker does not like "reimaginings." If it's not a word, it should be.

I don't think there was a single story in this collection that I did not thoroughly enjoy. It features some authors with whom I am familiar, such as Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, and Kelley Armstrong. There was one author whose work I read earlier, this year, Angela Slatter. The rest, I was mostly unfamiliar with.

There are a couple of stories with a circus/carnival motif, which I really love. Angela Slatter's "The Tissot Family Circus" was one of those, as was Joe Hill's "Dark Carousel," both of which were superb stories. Neil Gaiman's "Snow, Glass, Apples" was a retelling of the Snow White story, as is Laura Purcell's "Awake." There are cursed dolls, cursed shoes, even a group of people who have a support group of people who have been cursed. In "Mr. Thirteen," by M.R. Carey, a man shows up at the meeting, planning to take advantage of one of the cursed, but an unpleasant surprise awaits him.

There are sixteen stories, in all, all of the chilling in their own ways. It's hard to pin down a favorite, but "Dark Carousel, by Joe Hill, is definitely right up there. "The Confessor's Tale," by Sarah Pinborough was also among my favorites, as was "The Viral Voyage of Bird Man," by Katherine Ardin, which appears to be a retelling of "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner."

Again, I say, a delightful collection of short stories, which makes me want to hunt down a copy of the first book, Cursed.

90% good. Reminded me to never read Kelly Armstrong & to check out A. K. Benedict.
