Dnf'd at 33%. After a terrific start to the series, the locus of the series changed. It started as an epic family saga, then the author went to one of the plot devices I dislike most: the antagonist and element of conflict. I dislike this plot device because it's rote, uninspired and tedious. Worse is that the author just throws villains at the protagonists one after another. Worse are the repeat villains who don't die off but come back again and again.

Spoilers ahead:
When I got to the next chapter, which was Lady Victoria again, I just didn't want to read anymore.

Pros is that the writing is terribly easy to read and follow. The prose just flows naturally. I like the main characters. But the villains are all cut out of 2D cloth. I still like the author's writing so I'll try his detective books next.

I seriously need to know what's in the letter....................................... Ahhh!

Like the previous book, it's not as good as the first 3. However, like before, since I know the characters, I can't get enough. and "not as good" is still good.

The author definitely has a formula. Tell a story, mostly wrap it up, and then leave a cliff hanger on the part left alone. You know full well what the next book will be about.

As for the audio portion, the reader/performer is terrific. I can hear him at all times. It's a terrific book for noisy conditions like a bike ride.

A decent continuation of the chronicles-that-I-wish-were-one-epic-novel. Solid (though predictable in spots), with the typical cliff-hanger ending, I enjoyed the book, but have my fingers crossed that the next one will wrap it up
