Read this in beta twice now. Once as an arc. Reading my final ebook today. I could read this book a million times and it still wouldn't be enough.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a massive fan of Thorn and The Theft of Sunlight. I adore Intisar and her writing and so you can probably imagine my excitement when I was taken on as a beta reader for the finale of this series. Even from that very first version I read, I knew this book was an epic conclusion to a powerful series.

Rae and Bren and everyone in this book have my entire heart. I lost track of how many times I put my book down to squeal because I LOVE THEM YOUR HONOR. The romance was so well written, it's secondary to the plot and Rae sets up her boundaries so well, I was applauding. Rae is so strong, and her development over this journey was perfectly captured. Bren's growth as well! I adore them both immensely and will gladly take extra chapters of just fluff if Intisar ever decides to write them.

There's not much I can say without getting into spoilers but if you're a fan of this series, this is the ending we DESERVE. This book is fast paced, intense, a whirlwind of action, betrayal, love, and strength, and a continuation of Rae's strive for justice.

Intisar's motto for her writing is "strong girls and diverse worlds". Her books DELIVER on that promise and then some. I love, love, LOVE this series and I really do hope you pick it up.

I received beta copies and an ARC of this book from the author. This review is based on the ARC.

I don't know what happened from The Theft of Sunlight to this, literally nothing changed but I could not fully get invested into the plot this time around. I still love Rae so much as a protagonist, she is incredible, and I was interested to see how the mystery would unravel and if they could manage to curb the darkness - yet I was just kind of trucking along on her travels, missing the spark from book 2.
It's a satisfying story with a nice ending but that is sadly all. Very frustrating considering this is a direct sequel and TTOF went hard.

Really enjoyed this. I feel like the only reason this series is not as widely known and read is because the relationships are more realistic.. The rest of the book is certainly a cut above most YA.

A little deus ex machina at the end (AFTER resolving the main plot). I kind of wished it ended a bit earlier than it did and left more things open-ended, but I understand the desire to wrap up some of the loose storylines. There were also a couple times where a specific arc or character choice didn't make sense to me or wasn't addressed, which I found distracting, but that might just be me, haha.

Liked the inclusive and respectful representation of "disability"/having a divergent limb. Liked the inclusion of the language/titles and especially the casual, normal references to cultural traditions/differences (from the usual white western narratives) without feeling the need to spotlight or explain all of them (eg, cushions, henna, some clothing, etc). Made the world feel more real.

Highly recommend. Painfully fantastic slow-burn romance included, but not a romance book or what I would consider ship heavy, fyi.

Amazing amazing. I loved seeing the ending (??) to the series, and especially the disability rep in this one. And pirates! A slowwwww burn romance! I was completely in love with this book and delighted in seeing Rae get her HEA. Eeeeee

Oh my goodness! This book, this series, this author just (chef’s kiss) perfection. How has there not been so much buzz about this series? Such a badass female character who is not cookie cutter perfect a world full of darkness. The stakes are high from the beginning and the plotting so well done. I lost sleep over this book and I LOVE sleep. The world is so expertly built it felt like it existed. The romance is so beautiful (and I’m not usually a huge fan of romances in YA fantasy as they can often not make sense) and not rushed or forced it’s just pure chemistry. I love Rae so much, her character and development made her seem so so real to me. I could go on about this book and series forever. I will read whatever this woman writes, no questions asked.
