This is probably the book that gave me the most enjoyment this year. Waugh creates a riveting story-telling tone with his elegant and intriguing sentences. I was transported to the region of imagination frequented by Ray Bradbury, H.P. Lovecraft, Rod Serling, and the writers of The X-Files. Of course some stories were better than others, but even the weaker stories were enjoyable to read because of the language and the tone. Waugh has a musicality to his writing, dwelling on that edge between prose and poetry. Don't let the title or the cover art dissuade you! (I don't think the cover does the content nearly enough justice.) This is highly recommended to any lovers of weird or imaginative fiction!!
