Really enjoying Skypeia now. Oda has gotten better at balancing the long fights with other things since the end of Alabasta.

★★★★½

I loved this volume! There is so much going on, and seeing the weaker characters realising they can help too and then doing their part was really nice. I love the lore in Skypea, so it’s nice that we keep getting more tidbits in each volume.

The one thing that the anime did better than the manga in this one was Luffy’s song, though. Absolutely priceless.

Again, I make notes on manga, not so much review them. This is just to help me remember what things happened in which volume.

- I never took much stock on Wiper. I know he's supposed to come off as a misunderstood jerk with redeemable qualities later on. But boy was he an annoying prig for most of the manga. I could have done without the whole Shandian subplot, to be honest--albeit it's an extremely important one where Jaya is concerned.

- That said, there were some Shandian scenes I didn't mind. Take Zoro's fight, for example. That was a good one, and it gave more opportunity for Zoro to hone his techniques. Loved that he used only a one-sword technique for this fight.

- I have to admit, the bit with Luffy singing was further made better in the anime. And the interaction between him and Wiper was hilarious, but well, Luffy never disappoints.

- The rest of the volume had people fighting each other. Some notable battles include a burnt-to-crisp Sanji and Usopp versus Enel, Chopper versus Gedatsu, one of the vassals/guardians (which I felt had gone to Chopper by default, considering how much of an incompetent Gedatsu turned out to be), a burnt Kamakiri versus Enel (yes, this villain gets around as fast as lightning...wonder why), and then Nami and Ganfall trying to protect the ship from two more incompetent sky warriors.

- Oh, and some more heavenly warriors and Shandians fighting, but those weren't so important.
