Bet Me

Jennifer Crusie

3.86 AVERAGE

It’s always easy to finish a Crusie. Another wonderful story with a lead female that related to very well, and a lead male who was kinda too perfect that he edged on predictable. However, it is the most fairytale of hers that I’ve read and that was the theme, so I’m ok with that. Less spicy than others. Still love it, but I think others may have left more of a mark.

Somebody recommended Jennifer Crusie to me on tumblr when I asked for recommendations on any good romance novels where the dude is not a douche and the characters aren't uber rich. Bet Me pretty much fit the bill (although the dude's family is pretty well-off).

This book is straight up fun and funny romance. Cal and Min are very likable although a few of the side-characters (especially the mothers and the two villains) are two-dimensionally annoying and self-absorbed, but somehow, I'm not too annoyed.

Overall, an enjoyable read.

Cute read. Very happy book. :)

This was a delightful and surprising(ly excellent) read. Not a ton of angst, and wacky in the best way.

**ETA: great quarantine reading: upbeat and sunny!

One of Crusie's stronger outings, with a lot of fun events, a terrific supporting cast, great food descriptions (though, really, enough with the chicken marsala already! There are other great dishes out there!), and not too much detailed sex (because some of her earlier ones are a little too much like a Playboy (or girl) entry). I've read this before, and I'll probably read it again. . . a perfect summer pleasure!

Super enjoyable read. The main character has a lot of self esteem issues regarding her weight, which got a little tiring, but also can be quite realistic so I get it. I really liked the banter and the relationship between the main characters, in some romances there's is zero chemistry and it makes no sense that the characters would end up together, but Crusie did a great job of really building their relationship.
