Throughout this story I felt strange. Worried. Tense. Powerless. I felt the bile in my throat. This book was brutal and what it did to me… damn

Uuufff un libro duro... Que te hace pensar y, como en la mayoría de las distopías, no es una historia a la cual no podamos acabar llegando...
I did not see that coming. In a world where most people are infertile, what would a mother do? I literally gasped out loud at the end of this book. Great writing that really pulls you in and makes you feel the desperation.

It is definitely an interesting story but I don’t think that it needed to be a 300+ page book. This could have been a great short story. I didn’t love the choice to flip back and forth from past to present it sometimes made it felt repetitive.
But the characters are likeable and you truly do feel for them and the end chapter really shook me.

The premise of Dark Lullaby is an interesting one and overall I think the author did it justice. I appreciated the steady shift in perspective between the past and the present; though it has been done before, the author uses it effectively here to give information to the reader at just the right time in the book. There were a few holes here and there, and it is certainly reminiscent of [b:The Handmaid's Tale|38447|The Handmaid's Tale (The Handmaid's Tale, #1)|Margaret Atwood|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1578028274l/38447._SY75_.jpg|1119185]. But on the whole, this is a well-done work of dystopian fiction and I recommend it to folks who enjoy the genre.
I thought this book was way to long, it would've made a great novella. I usually listen to audioboooks on 1.0 speed but I ended up listening to the last bit on 2.0 speed. I do think that the story was good and it's an interesting topic, I think this could be a great choice for a bookclub because it raises a lot of question about society and especially parenting and I believe you could have some really interesting discussions surrounding that. It was pitched as a mix of Black Mirror and The Handmaid's Tale and because of that my expectations were way too high. If I would've gone into this book without those expectations I think I would've enjoyed the story more.
