Very disappointing book. In fairness I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this book but what I didn't expect was a volume of name dropping, self-congratulatory stories from one of my favourite announcers.

Very little depth, lots of surface recounting of stories but really not much of interest here. I wanted to like this but in the end I have to put this into the time waster category. Al should stick to announcing and leave the writing to others.

I really enjoyed getting a behind the scenes look in the broadcasting booth and hearing about all the interesting people Al has met and worked with along the way.

I selected this book as part of a book reading challenge. This month’s challenge is to read a memoir by someone who has your dream job. I don’t think I would have selected it on my own. Thank you, M. Judson Booksellers for creating the challenge. #MJREADS2023

Al Michaels tells some very entertaining stories about so many notable people, and not just sports figures. He discusses football, baseball, horse racing, basketball, golf, hockey, the Olympics and other topics, including network operations and its politics. Never a dull chapter. I always liked Al Michaels, but now I have a greater appreciation for him and his chosen career.

Al is my husband's FAVORITE sports broadcaster, and in an effort to gear up for football season, I decided to read this book. DEFINITELY a good decision. It was so interesting to hear about his life and experiences. The segment on his legendary call of the USSR/USA hockey at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid was INCREDIBLE. I had goosebumps through the entire chapter!

I listened to this audiobook. Some parts of this book were really interesting -- I enjoyed learning about the drive and determination it took him to get into the broadcast sports field, and the OK chapter was an interesting view of those events. Mostly though the level of detail was a little too inside baseball and the stories were of the cocktail party variety. Al Michaels has lead an remarkable life and I'm glad he never got jaded. Good guy, alright book.

I am a huge sports fan and absolutely loved this book. Having listened to Al Michaels for years, I heard his voice while reading the book and truly felt like he was telling the story. The book tells the story of an amazing career and I so enjoyed relieving some special sports memories as he gave background stories around the people and events. If you grew up a sports fan like I did, this is a must read.
