I read this back in 2008 because I needed some guidance around being a freelancer and time management. I can see why this was a NY Time bestseller when it first came out. The critique of the usual "gotcha!" method of management really rang some bells for me. While a bit simplistic, I think the ideas about setting and reviewing goals could be really valuable for managers, employees and people who work for themselves.
The content is useful but the presentation as dialog was *frustrating*. People don’t talk like this. The conversations felt so staged that it distracted from the message.
While this wasn't worth purchasing, it was worth the read. At only 96, well-margined pages, this book was full on insightful tips for managing. I would recommend this for anyone new to or hoping to improve their role as manager. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for a cheap, used copy to have around the office as I will be hoping to keep re-reading this as I need refreshers.

Typical self-help type... Written in a pleasing manner though, not in a know-it-all/this-is-science kind of way.
Short parable about being an effective manager/leader. I enjoy Blanchard, and believe his leadership principles are important and effective. The One Minute Manager gives a brief look at some principles that will help a new leader get started or a seasoned leader get back on track if they aren't seeing results or teams they wish they saw. However, it is important to remember that leadership is not so simple that one short book will make you a great leader. This is one set of principles/theories in a sea of thousands. Continue to read, continue to learn, continue to practice good leadership skills, continue to discuss with your peers and mentors, and continue on to being a better leader.
