Don't think I ever finished it. It was decent but I wasn't interested so much so that I retained any of the story.

just a small step above most fanfic on ao3, i wish saberhagen would've had the courage to put more of his own (quite witty) ideas in the novel, instead of quoting entire passages of the original dracula by stoker

You are not fooling anyone, Dracula! This is basically Dracula suffering a narcissistic manic episode while taking the witness stand.
Graphic: Ableism, Bullying, Death, Infidelity, Misogyny, Sexism, Violence, Xenophobia, Blood, Medical content, Cannibalism, Medical trauma, Injury/Injury detail, Classism
Moderate: Cursing, Gun violence, Toxic relationship, Stalking, Murder, Abandonment
Minor: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Child abuse, Racism, Rape, Sexual violence, Suicide, Torture, Pregnancy, Alcohol, War
Be warned of narcissism, plagiarism of the original text (basically copy and paste), animal transformation, element transformation, and the Incel “nice guy” excuse.
I recently read Dracula. Hated it. This was MUCH better. Not great, but fun.
This book was basically the same story from Dracula's point of view. Van Helsing and friends wanted to kill vampires because they were different. They gave Lucy blood, but didn't know about blood types so THEY killed her. Dracula was screwing Mina Harker(Jonathan Harker's wife). Mina certainly had more depth than in the original. In it, she was the "dutiful wife" and victim whose biggest contribution seemed to be her impressive secretarial abilities(sarcasm).
The only problem I saw with the book was the idea. Dracula is this major badass, but the IDEA of the book comes off like he's whining. "No, that's not how it really happened. I'm REALLY a nice guy." A badass like Dracula was supposed to be(even in THIS book) wouldn't have cared what the rest of the world thought of him.

all reviews in one place:
night mode reading ;

About the Book: Not all that was told in “Dracula“, given to us through letters, journals, and diaries, has happened the way people there have claimed it to happen. So, Dracula’s here to sling some dirt back, after he has been wrongfully painted as women-stalking monster, and tell his side of the tale.
My Opinion: It’s a very amusing book. Dracula is clearly very annoyed by the false story, and I can almost imagine him rolling his eyes at Harker, live or on the pages, reading the story of a bunch of righteous men chasing down a vampire. It’s well written, easy to read, and at times even historically accurate.

It's cool to have Dracula's response to the Bram Stoker's version.
I'm not sure if I liked this more or less because of how well I know the actual novel [b:Dracula|17245|Dracula|Bram Stoker|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1387151694l/17245._SY75_.jpg|3165724]. There are ways in which it has fun with it, but at a certain point, I kind of got the gag and knew it was just going to play out in this manner, retelling the events with minor revisions.
I'm quite certain I'd have found this more revelatory if I'd not experienced so much revisionist storytelling before this, which is mildly unfair, considering how early it was in that cycle.
I felt like it moved too far into making him innocent, even by his own estimation. I think allowing him a few more of the villainies might have made it more interesting. For instance, I thought taking away Renfield from being genuinely enslaved dull in storytelling terms.
I rather enjoyed the characterization, though, so will probably read another entry or two in this series eventually.
