This book is for anyone that's ever internalized crappy behavior and convinced themselves that "This happened because I'm a sucky human being."
FAKE NEWS, QUEEN.
The Shift does a wonderful job letting the reader know that sometimes "It's not you, it's them. No, seriously. And even if it IS YOU...you can still bounce back and do better next time. You've just got to change your outlook." Tinx's words are uplifting and her "The Shift" examples used in the chapters are a great reset for the things we overthink and hold onto for too long.
A big sister you can feel safe opening up to. I was a fan before the book came out and I'm still a fan now that I've read it.

Thank you Simon Books for a free copy of this book in exchange for a review
Okay, okay, okay... I can't help myself sometimes. I am a sucker for a good self-help book. And even more so when the cover is eye catching. I get that as a married, mother of two, and pushing 30, that I am not the intended target for the marketing of this book. I can however tell you that even I was able to find various takeaways from this book.
The Shift was hilariously entertaining while still able to keep the reader humble enough to think about that shift of perspective in their life. Her writing style is very entertaining and makes you feel as though you are just having a girl-talk session with her. To put it lightly, her tone is comforting and holds a lot of "big sister energy", if that makes sense.
While her philosophies seem genuine and well established from her own life choices, I feel as though they aren't for everyone. The book is marketed as A Guide to Dating, Self-worth & Becoming the Main Character Energy of Your Life... yet if I were to break the book down, 90% of it revolved around dating and guys, 5% to self-worth, and 5% to figuring out main character energy. Due to that aspect, I feel this book should be marketed towards just a dating guide. Reading about her personal stories and ideas was unlike anything I've ever experienced, so it was great to see/read a different perspective on dating life.
Again, I am clearly not the targeted audience for this book, which is fine. My only personal opinion that felt clouded was her insistence on how if anything felt like it was wrong in a relationship, it's always the guys fault. Which, to me, doesn't seem fair. I was happily married at 19 years old to the same person I am with 10 years later. He was my best friend but we had no experience dating or being together. We essentially grew with each other and made some sacrifices to continue our healthy relationship. Yet, this book implies that none of that is possible which felt very deceiving if you are giving dating advice. Almost like an unhopeful way to be like, "Well, you can date 10000 men, but don't give in to this or that. Don't be in a relationship for this or that. Always put yourself first for this or that..." Like, it's hard to grasp the general sense of the dating advice if you want to refuse a relationship and just focus on yourself.
Overall, I did find the book very entertaining. It was hilarious and hard to put down. This would definitely make a great gift for any woman between the ages of 18 & 35 and could be a great read for a woman's based book club or girls group.

Listened on Spotify. I am normally anti audiobooks but really enjoyed listening to tinx read this and it felt very similar to her podcast.
A veryyyy unexpected five star review. This is the perfect lifestyle read for any gal in her twenties. The difference between this and other books similar is that Tinx was able to have loads of humor throughout the book. In addition, there were plenty of examples to comprehend everything she was saying too. Couldn’t recommend more.
