Good, I think this rivals book 2, even thought Ripley wasn't as big a character in this one, it was refreshing from a new POV.
dark mysterious tense medium-paced

Very well written, though a bit slow early on.

I think this is my last Ripley. It’s just too creepy to watch this sociopath living a life of luxury, looking like a cultured man and solicitous husband to casual acquaintances. But then there are his other moments.

Spoiler alert, don’t read the next paragraph if you haven’t finished the book.

When did other readers realize that Jonathan Trevanny was doomed?

Boring

Really enjoyable. A little less convoluted than Ripley Under Ground — still has a couple of credulity-stretching moments. But there's something about Highsmith's feverish, apprehensive atmosphere that is gripping and disconcerting.

not the worst in the series, but not as good as The Talented Mr Ripley - full review here

Ripley number 3 and a decent ending to the series. This is a wonderfully dark story of manipulation and murder. Most compelling is the fact that while some characters are unarguably evil, particularly Tom Ripley, most characters live in a land where nothing is black and white. They are all flawed - and while I felt some degree of sympathy for most of them, I also believed that they had all committed morally unacceptable acts. These characters were complicated and interesting. Again the details of life in France and travel on the continent were well drawn. Highsmith paints scenes that I find stay in my head a long time after reading one of her books. Ripley's house, the train, the streets of Fontainebleau, Mongibello, Salzburg, the shops - I can see them all. The plot moves along well, although I didn't love the ending, and again, another good dark novel for a vacation read.
