80% of the book was great. Lovable characters, a real sense of danger, multiple enemies (or so I thought), decent world building... And then the final chapters ruined everything.

SpoilerThe plot twist made absolutely no sense. The explanation given was so vague and details were left out but we are to believe White Hands said the necessary things for Deka to accept the murder of all the deathshrieks. What was the point of all of this? Deka could've been recovered in any other way and trained secretly to release the Goddesses but instead we have this long convoluted plan that only involves one person as the mastermind (White Hands).

The bad guy was also a joke. "Mwahaha! I'm about to kill you but let me tell you about my evil plan and how I knew about everything all along but didn't do anything because reasons. Oh no what's this! I am losing the fight! How unpredictable!".

So disappointed. The ending was rushed and the writing deteriorated as well.

This book suffered greatly from telling and not showing. Some neat plot ideas are lost in conveniently added plot elements and things the author tells the reader to think and feel, as opposed to earning the readers investment in the characters and story.

Definitely check the trigger warnings on this guy. Very enjoyable but did NOT expect all the torture.
