Also a five from me because this is probably the best biography I’ve ever read. Engaging all the way. I will be watching every single Anna May movie now.

Informative and important. Salisbury does not sugar coat much, though maybe could have even more plainly stated the obvious racism in Hollywood. But Anna May Wong truly an inspiration, rebel, and trendsetter. A book worthy of introducing her.

3.75 out of 5 Stars Read in audio: I loved that it also went into the struggles of other Asian Americans in the industry along with the racism in Hollywood being addressed and not shied away from. The settings were very vivid in an era I love to read about.
The downside was I did feel like their was bi-erasure in this book with only focusing on her male romantic partners.

A thorough biography of an amazing, underappreciated, trail blazer. I wish I had known about her when I was younger and had very few Chinese role models.
