I read Jade Island first before I read this book. Naturally, I had to read up on Honor Donovan and Jake Mallory after Jade Island. Amber Beach is the first book from four-parts of The Donovans series.

Honor is in a desperate search for his brother, Kyle Donovan, who went missing after a shipment of amber went wrong and a death of a man is pinned on his beloved brother. She then hires Jake Mallory as a fishing guide without knowing that Jake is actually looking for Kyle himself. While Honor is worried about her brother, Jake is counting ways to kick the Kyle's ass for the mess he thought Kyle engineered.

Of course, in the process of finding Kyle and a shipment of precious amber, Honor and Jake fell in love with each other. But neither of them trust each other. Jake refuses to trust another Donovan after Russia shit-listed his company and Honor is highly skeptical of Jake's sincerity after finding out who Jake really is. Here's a hint: Jake is no fishing guide.

I like the story enough. Skipped some part. Skimmed (quickly) at some part. Did not miss much, really. It's almost predictable towards the end. What I like the most is that Honor has got quick mouth. That's about it, I think.

Full of quotes that I still live by. "Life's a bitch and then you die."

A brother in peril. Gemstones. History. Politics. Spies. Russia. Mafia. Fishing. A huge boat. San Juan Islands. Cool family.

Chauvinism. Betrayal. Exes. Dead bodies. Build up was fine but the resolution was swift and unsatisfying.

As one of the other reviewers said: the book leans heavily on sailing and sex to pad its length. There wasn't a whole lot of information gathering, just let's look at these places Kyle put on the map. Then in the end finding him was as simple as Honor putting his password in the boat's computer.
